The Ornithological Black Stork Group is trying to obtain that other
associations participate in the project planned for the next Spring
referring to the study of the migration of birds in the Strait of

Gibraltar.

The COCN invites other associations to participate with their members
and volunteers military service at the following studies during 9 days :

- Census of Black Storks (Ciconia nigra), Spring 2002.

In year 1,997 the Cocn made the first initial study on the
postnuptial migratory population of the Black Stork (Ciconia nigra), including numerous parameters (Climatology, effort in the observation, etc)
trying to know the population tendency of the species (increase or diminution).

- Census of Osprey (Pandion haliaetus).

Achievement of the initial study concerning the population of Ospreys in the
postnuptial migratory movement by the Straits of Gibraltar.

- Study on migratory routes of the gliding birds and the influence
of the climatic conditions in their postnuptial migratory movements in
the area of the Straits of Gibraltar.

This Study will analyze the ways, speed of flight, lost of wheight, etc.
Methods : Triangulations, etc.

- Migrations from other countries (Study awarded with the prize
of Ecológia 2 001) :

birds from the African continent after the crossing the Strait of Gibraltar.

- Migrations "live".

Computer science project concerning the spreading on the postnuptial birds and
their migratory movements in the area of the Strait of Gibraltar.
These data will be published daily on the Web site of the Cocn.

This project has been planned from the 13 of July to the 27 of October.

13 associations (as much national as foreign) will be able to participate in the COCN projects,
Each one will participate with its voluntarees (between 9 and 14 people) in periods of 9 days.
The work will begin a Saturday lasting the 9 following days,
each weekend 2 associations making the project simultaneously
(the leaving association explaining all the details of the project to the
incoming association).

The Cocn. offers the lodging (all-equiped Kitchen, library, computer science material...) and will distribute
short training courses to all the participants.

We esteem that between 135 and 210 people from the ornithological voluntary military service
will participate, 5 with the level of computer science voluntary military
service, 10 in spreading and 15 under negotiation.

OnLine Planning.

The planning is OnLine : through our Web, the different associations can see and select
the periods they can participate and volunteers can see which enrolled associations need personnel.
